Oklahoma Deer and Turkey Seasons, Zones and License Costs (2026-27)

Oklahoma's 2026-27 deer seasons run archery Oct. 1, 2026 – Jan. 15, 2027; youth gun Oct. 16-18; muzzleloader Oct. 24 – Nov. 1; gun Nov. 21 – Dec. 6; and holiday antlerless Dec. 18-31. A nonresident needs a $209 annual hunting license plus a $501 deer license for the season hunted. Confirm every date with ODWC before you hunt.

Every date and fee below was taken from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's Hunting Seasons and License Fees pages on August 31, 2026, and applies to the 2026-27 license year. ODWC sets seasons by formula but the Wildlife Conservation Commission can and does change rules between years. The 2026-27 deer seasons

The combined limit across all seasons is what actually governs you. ODWC states it plainly: "Six: no more than two may be antlered." The individual season limits in the table are ceilings inside that six, not additions to it.

The one exception is the holiday season. Deer taken Dec. 18-31 are bonus animals and, per ODWC, "do not count toward the hunter's combined season limit." That is the cheapest whitetail in Oklahoma if you already hold a gun deer license, and it is the reason a lot of Texas buyers plan a second trip between Christmas and New Year's.

Why these dates move every year. ODWC sets most seasons by rule, not by calendar date. Per the department's Next Year's Hunting Season Dates page, muzzleloader runs the fourth Saturday in October through the first Sunday in November, youth gun is the third Friday in October through Sunday, and gun season opens the Saturday before Thanksgiving and runs 16 consecutive days. Archery (Oct. 1 – Jan. 15) and holiday antlerless (Dec. 18-31) are fixed. That formula is why the 2026-27 dates above land where they do — and why they will shift by a few days next year.

Deer zones and antlerless limits

Oklahoma splits the state into ten antlerless deer zones. Your zone does not change your season dates. It changes how many does you may take during muzzleloader and gun seasons.

Which zone covers LeFlore, Latimer and Pushmataha counties? ODWC publishes the zone assignments as a map image rather than as a county list, and a boundary that sets a legal bag limit is not something to take on trust from any website. Pull the Antlerless Deer Zones map in the current Oklahoma Hunting Regulations and check your county — and the tract itself — against it before you buy on the assumption you can shoot four does off it.

Two things are worth knowing regardless of the number. First, zone lines follow highways and rivers, not county lines, so a large tract can straddle a boundary. Second, antlerless limits on public land are frequently lower than the surrounding zone limit — that is set area by area, which matters if you plan to hunt the Ouachita National Forest and the WMAs that overlay it.

Turkey seasons — and why southeast Oklahoma is the part that still works

The spring rule is one line long and it catches people: "One (1) tom turkey; harvest of non-bearded turkeys is prohibited." One bird. Statewide. Gun and archery seasons combined. That is not a typo and it is not a zone quirk.

That limit exists because the statewide flock fell hard. ODWC reported the population dropping from roughly 100,000 birds in 2016 to about 70,000 by 2022, with harvest falling from 42,000 birds in 2003 to roughly 19,000 in 2021.

The regional picture is where southeast Oklahoma separates itself. ODWC's Southeast Region biologist Eric Suttles, quoted in the department's Turkey Hunting Rules Change as Research Examines Slump, put it directly: "We are in better shape than the western part of the state." Regional three-year declines ranged from 2.7% in the Northeast Region to 67.1% in the Southwest.

Check whether your county is open for fall turkey gun season. ODWC's fall gun season carries county restrictions that the department shows only on a map, so confirm LeFlore, Latimer or Pushmataha against the current Fall Turkey regulations before you plan a hunt. What it costs — residents and nonresidents

Read the nonresident column honestly. A Texas hunter coming up for gun season pays $209 + $501 = $710 before fuel, before a WMA permit, before a lease. Every year. Buy 20 acres and hunt it for fifteen years and the license math alone is a real number — which is one of the quieter reasons Texas buyers end up shopping hunting land in southeast Oklahoma instead of renewing a lease.

The deer license got simpler in 2024. Under the Oklahoma Wildlife License Modernization Act, effective July 1, 2024, ODWC consolidated roughly 50 licenses into about 14. Per the department's Deer Licenses Just Got an Upgrade: "Resident and nonresident adult hunters need only an annual hunting license and a single deer license for the season they plan to hunt." One deer license now covers your full limit for that season. If you last hunted Oklahoma before 2024 and remember buying tags one at a time, that is gone.

Go Outdoors Oklahoma, E-Check and hunter education

Buying. Licenses are sold through Go Outdoors Oklahoma, online or through the mobile app. Per ODWC's licensing system FAQ, the app is "a legal means of carrying your licenses in the field" — no paper required. A durable collector's card is optional at $6.

E-Check. ODWC's general hunting regulations are unambiguous: "All deer, elk, antelope, bear, or turkey taken must be reported by the hunter to the Department within 24 hours of leaving the hunt area. Once reported, a carcass tag or online confirmation number will be issued." The app processes E-Check forms with no cell signal and syncs when service returns — which matters in the Kiamichis, where coverage is thin in the hollows.

Hunter education. Per ODWC's requirements page, anyone 31 or older is exempt. Anyone 30 or younger without certification "must hunt as an apprentice and abide by the accompanying hunter requirements." Active duty, honorably discharged veterans and National Guard members are also exempt.

Landowner exemptions. Oklahoma clearly grants landowners a feral swine control exemption — ODWC states that "landowners or agricultural lessees conducting nuisance control activities must possess a current agricultural exemption permit issued by the Oklahoma Tax Commission." A general deer-and-turkey license exemption for landowners and tenants is a common claim online, but it is not something we could confirm from ODWC or the statutes, and this page will not assert one. When does deer season open in Oklahoma in 2026?

How much is a nonresident deer license in Oklahoma?

A nonresident adult pays $209 for the annual hunting license plus $501 for a deer license covering one season — archery, muzzleloader or gun — for a total of $710. A nonresident youth 17 and under pays $151 for an annual super hunting license that covers deer. A 5-day nonresident hunting license is $75, but a deer license is still required on top.

How many deer can I shoot in Oklahoma?

Six total across all seasons, with no more than two antlered. Individual seasons cap you lower — four during gun season, four during muzzleloader, two during youth gun — but those sit inside the six. Deer taken during the Dec. 18-31 holiday antlerless season are bonus animals and do not count against the six-deer combined limit.

Do I have to report my harvest in Oklahoma?

Yes. ODWC requires that all deer, elk, antelope, bear or turkey be reported within 24 hours of leaving the hunt area. You report through the Go Outdoors Oklahoma app or your online account, and you receive a carcass tag or confirmation number. The app records E-Check submissions offline and uploads them when you regain service.

Do I need hunter education to hunt Oklahoma?

Only if you are 30 or younger. Anyone 31 or older is exempt. Hunters 30 and under who are not certified may still hunt under an apprentice designation, selected when buying the license, subject to accompaniment requirements. Active-duty military, honorably discharged veterans and National Guard members are exempt regardless of age.
